HB 1962 is sent to the Crime Commission

The Senate Committee for Courts of Justice voted to pass by HB 1962 indefinitely on February 16, 2209.

The bill, which states that court orders will be void if they conflict with current requirements for registration as a sex offender, was sent to the Crime Commission.

SB 861 was defeated in subcommittee

The House Committee on General Laws referred SB 861 to the Subcommittee on Professions, Occupations, and Administrative Process, who recommended laying the bill on the table by a vote of 6 – 2.

The bill would have created a Children’s Ombudsman Office.

SB1298 Has been Passed By Indefinitely by the House Committee on Courts of Justice Criminal Law Subcommittee

SB1298, which allows the court to reduce a felony to a misdemeanor after deferring adjudication when a juvenile was placed on probation and fulfills the terms and conditions of his probation, has been reccommended to be passed by indefinitely by the House Committee on Courts of Justice Criminal Law Subcommittee. No further action will be taken on this legislation during the 2009 General Assembly Session.

SB1377 Recommended For Reporting By House Subcommittee

SB1377, which provides that police and sheriff departments may release current information on juvenile arrests to law-enforcement agencies in other states, has been recommended for reporting by the House Committee on Courts of Justice Criminal Law Subcommittee. This legislation will now be taken up by the Full Committee on Courts of Justice.

SB1218 On Docket for Wednesday, February 18th

SB1218 is on the docket to be heard on Wednesday, February 18th  in the House Committee on Courts of Justice Criminal Law Subcommitee.  This subcommittee meets 1/2 hour after adjournment of the Full House.

This is a bill that would allow the Director of the Department of Juvenile Justice to notify the appropriate school division superintendent when a juvenile who poses a credible danger of serious bodily injury or death to students, school personnel or others on school property is released from a juvenile correctional center,

House Bill 2513 Passed Courts of Justice

House Bill 2513, which adds of acts of mob violence to listing of offenses that an intake officer may report to a school division superintendant when committed by a juvenile, passed the Courts of Justice 14 yeas to 0 Nays.  The bill has currently passed the first reading in the Senate 40 yeas to 0 nays, and is waiting it’s second reading.
