HB 2274 gives the Sex Offender Registry the right (but not the obligation) to post all “wanted” information about individuals who are required to register. Currently,Virginia only allows the fact that such persons are “wanted” if they are “wante for another sex offense or the failure to register. The new law would allow any other crimes for which a person is “wanted” to be posted on the Internet.
The bill crossed over to the Senate and was Referred to the Senate Committee for Courts of Justice. It was further assigned to the Criminal Subcommittee and placed on the docket for Monday, February 16, 2009.
The meeting will be held at 4:00 in Senate Room A of the General Assembly building.
