S.B. 1290 passed by the Senate, moves on to the House

Senate Bill 1290 was passed yesterday by the full Virginia Senate, and the bill now moves over to the House side.  The bill was passed by a vote of 39 to 1, with the 1 Nay coming from Senator Ryan McDougle from the Mechanicsville area.

If passed, then this bill would require that an appeal from any final order or judgment of the juvenile court be taken in accordance with the appeal provisions specified for the general district courts.  It proposes to amend and reenact § 16.1-296 of the Code of Virginia, relating to appeals from juvenile and domestic relations district court.

SB1297 has been left in the Senate Committee on Courts of Justice

SB1297, wich allows juveniles who have previously been adjudicated delinquent of a violent juvenile felony to be confined in a detention home or other secure juvenile facility, has been left in the Senate Committee on Courts of Justice.

No further action will  be taken on this bill during the 2009 General Assembly Session.

SB1218 passed by the Senate with subsitute language

SB1218 has been passed by the State Senate in the nature of a substitute  by a 39-0 vote.

The subsitute legislation limits the scope of the bill to requiring the Director of DJJ to report any credible danger to students, personnel, or the school to the school superintendent. (The orginal bill included provisions requiring the disclosure of all probation and parole reports)

 The amendment in the nature of a substitute bill is now before the House of Delegates. No Committee assignment has been made.

House Bill 2131 left in the House Courts of Justice

House Bill 2131, which increases the penalty for gang activity in gang free zones, has been left in the House Courts of Justice Committee.
